Poetry Week October 2023 and our first poetry slam!

What a magical day we have all had in school! The children spent the day with a real poet- "The Poet from the Peaks" Andy Tooze.  Andy led a whole school assembly and then went into each class to deliver poetry workshops.  By the end of the day, all of the children had had the opportunity to perform and write their own poems. The whole school has been buzzing with excitement all day and the children have been so inspired to begin to write their own poems. As Andy has shown us all- "writing poems is easy and fun!

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebrations May 2022

On Thursday 26th May the children entertained parents singing some songs covering the decades of the Queen’s reign.  After listening to the singing parents then visited classrooms to find out about some Commonwealth countries.  Each class had learnt about the traditions and culture of a Commonwealth country and shared their knowledge with parents.

Gardening club and Forest School collaborated and planted a horse chestnut tree on the school field to celebrate the Jubilee. The children named the tree ‘Stanley’, and did a brilliant job of digging, planting and watering it.

On Friday 27th May, the children to came to school dressed in red, white and blue.  The day began with the ‘The Middleton Proms’ a violin concert given by our Year 4 and 5 children. It was a fabulous concert and the children performed brilliantly.  At lunchtime the children enjoyed a Jubilee picnic provided by the Catering Service, and then in the afternoon all the school made crowns, played games and had a street party!

We very much hope, the children enjoy and remember these celebrations for years to come, as I am sure we all remember jubilees of the past!
