Hello Lighthouse and Beside the Sea

Puffins Class have been enjoying working on their theme for this term 'Beside the sea'.  They have started to make lighthouses and explore seascapes.  They have also had some fun cooling off with water!

Key Stage 1 Cromford Mills Trip April 2022

The children in Puffins and Kingfishers classes went on a trip to Cromford Mills in April.  The trip had an art focus and throughout the day the children took part in workshops where they created their own artworks whilst learning about famous artists such as Lowry, Goldsworthy and Klee.

The children in Puffins Class have taken part in “Odd Socks Day” as part of anti-bullying week. We discussed how we are all different and special and that is a good thing! The children then made beautiful collages of children to celebrate how unique and diverse we all are.

People Who Help Us

Puffins Class Care Home Visit 19 October 2021

The children learnt about our local care home, Waltham House. The children decided that they would like to make some cards and jokes for the residents.

The children also wanted to say a huge “Thank you” to all of the carers who work so very hard at all times, but especially throughout the Coronavirus pandemic. So they put together this beautiful hamper and several children visited the care home to tell their jokes to the residents and present the hamper.

Puffins Class Fire Engine Visit September 2021

Puffins Class had a fantastic morning learning all about being a firefighter as part of our "People Who Help Us" topic. The best part was getting to sit in the fire engine! Thank you to the team at Wirksworth Fire Station for coming to visit us.

Puffins Garden

The children in Puffins were fascinated by the rooftop garden that Errol and his community create in the story of "Errol's Garden," by Gillian Hibbs. We discussed different types of gardens and the children described their own gardens. The children identified that we have a beautiful sensory garden in school, a vegetable garden and wildflower areas on the field. However, they felt the Puffins balcony area was very bare so they decided they would like to plant their own little garden on the balcony. They worked together to create this lovely little garden area which has certainly brightened up the balcony. Well done Puffins

"The teaching staff, without exception, are excellent. There is always a feeling of warmth and happiness at the school - smiling children, smiling staff and smiling parents at the school gates. I feel both my children have received an excellent education at Middleton Primary and will be sad to leave the school at the end of the year."
