Forest School

We are very fortunate at Middleton to have such a fantastic outdoor space, including our own woodland. The staff and children love to make as much use of it as possible.

Forest School 2023

It has been a very busy year for Forest School.  All the children have taken part in many activites linked to their class subjects.

Spring Terms 1 and 2, 2022

This term, Year 5's have been busy linking their forest school learning to the class subject 'Greeks'. They have learnt how to plan and use tools to create Olympic games using natural woodland resources to make javelins and batons. They have also researched the biodiversity of our woodland and created some very robust hedgehog homes which they sited appropriately within the woodland area to help our spiky friends find shelter.

Year 4's have been linking their forest school learning to the class subject 'The Romans' and produced some wonderful Y-shaped weaving sticks. They have learnt how to build shelters using tarpaulins and pegs showing great team coordination.

Finally, both year groups have enjoyed collecting fire wood and learning how to lay a waffle-lay and build a fire for our final marshmallow toasting fire celebration enjoyed by all.
