Puffins Home Learning

Autumn Term 2 2020

Hello!

If you are reading this it is probably because you or someone in your family has been asked to stay at home and isolate for a few days. We can’t wait to have you back in class where we are all busy learning but as you are stuck at home at the moment, we have sorted a few things out to keep you busy.

See how many activities you can complete.

Reading

Read every day! You can read anything you like – it doesn’t have to be a school book. If you can’t find anything to read go to the Oxford Owl website where you will find lots of books you can read online. Mum or Dad will have to sign up but it is free and they may already have an account.

Writing

This half term’s topic is called “Hooray for Harvest” and we will be learning all about life on the farm and exploring harvest-themed traditional tales. Listen to the story of The Little Red Hen

You could try these activities:

  • Make your own stick puppets using the templates (cut out the pictures and stick them onto lolly sticks) and retell the story using them.

  • Write sentences to retell the story of The Little Red Hen using the storyboard resource.

  • Write speech bubbles to show what each character might be saying.

Maths

We follow the White Rose Maths scheme of work.

For Reception children, click on Early Years

Year Ones, click on the Year 1.

You will find the schemes of work here, which have lots of great ideas for activities.

Any counting activities would be fabulous for you to have a go at. You could count how many stairs you have, how many steps it takes to walk around your garden or how many bites it takes to eat your dinner. You could also have a look at the Top Marks website which has some great maths games.

If you are completing these activities
near to Christmas time, you could complete the lessons on the Nativity from the Oak National
Academy.

Science

Our Topic this half term is Animal habitats – how different animals have adapted to their surroundings and what they need to survive. At home you could go and explore in your back garden and see what is living under leaves, rotten wood, rocks and stones. You’d be surprised what you might find!!! If you find anything interesting make a note of what the habitat was like and why you think the creature lived there...

You could make sketches or take photos of your mini-beast and write a short description of where you found it and what it is. We would love to see these on our closures emails.

Here are some other animal habitat activities which can be printed out and completed with a grown up:

You could also have a go at making a bug hotel, wormery or bird feeder. Look at the following photos to give you some ideas.

Anything else

Anything else you can fit in would be a bonus and definitely worth some house points. Here are some ideas.

We can’t wait to see you back in school soon but in the mean time we would love to hear all about what you get up to at home!
